James Caan will forever be remembered as the hot-head Sonny Corleone in The Godfather in which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.  While it may be his most famous film of all time, he also has an impressive list of other Hollywood hits under his belt such as, A Bridge Too Far, Elf, Misery, El Dorado and others.  His list of co-stars is equally impressive.  He’s worked with John Wayne, Robert Duvall (a Republican), Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Sean Connery, Robert Redford, Michael Caine, Adam Sandler (a Republican), Gene Hackman, Marlon Brando and more.

El Dorado is one of the first big films that Caan co-starred in.  For those of you who don’t know, El Dorado is the classic John Wayne western directed by Howard Hawks where Caan co-stars as “Mississippi”.  Caan was a young man of 23 when he played this role.  During an interview with AV Club Caan said that while filming El Dorado “John Wayne was always calling me ‘kid,’’ The film also starred Robert Mitchum (a Republican).  If you have not seen El Dorado you definitely need to add it to your watch list – It’s a classic.

It’s worth mentioning, John Wayne was also a Republican and a close friend of Ronald Reagan.  Outside of Reagan, Wayne is probably the most well known Republican celebrity to ever come out of Hollywood.  As an unrelated side note, John Wayne also happens to be my absolute favorite actor of all time and I eventually plan to do a long write up about his many efforts for the Republican cause.

In recent years James Caan has not been afraid to reveal his Republican views.  In 2011 Caan went on The O’Reilly Show and talked about being a Conservative in Hollywood, working with John Wayne in El Dorado among other things.

James Caan “Ultra Conservative” Republican

During an interview at Moet & Chandon’s 6th Annual Hollyshorts Film Festival Opening Night Celebration in Los Angeles Caan said, “I’m an ultra conservative,” and went on to say, “I’m not a G** damn Hollywood liberal, I’m not!”  Well then, that certainly settles that!  Anymore questions?

He has also talked of being a big fan of Bill O’Reilly and stated that he only watches FoxNews.

When it comes to pushing his own political agenda as actor he had this to say, “I’ll let those other geniuses do that – all those actors who like to find a stage to push their agendas,” he said. “They don’t have political science degrees… I certainly don’t.  I’ll leave it to Sean Penn or Barbara Streisand to comment on that.”

We tip our hat to James Caan a Republican and also James Caan one of the biggest movie stars of all time.  We are looking forward to his future movies and TV shows.  According to IMDB several are in the works for later this year and next.

Next time someone tells you there aren’t any Republicans in Hollywood tell them Sonny Corleone disagrees.
